Kathy Powers

In 2002, a Lunenburg native was putting the finishing touches on a remarkable competitive record of her own when she was named Nova Scotia Golf Association player of the year.

Kathy Powers was a 14-time provincial women’s amateur champion, was runner-up eight times and held 10 Nova Scotia course records. In addition, she won Nova Scotia junior titles in 1973 and 1974 and later earned 10 consecutive berths on the provincial ladies amateur team.

Four-time LPGA tour champion Lorie Kane recalled Powers as a “force to be reckoned with” as a competitor on the golf course.

“However, her golfing ability quite frankly pales in comparison to the attributes that she possesses as a person,” said Kane in a testimonial for the Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame.

“Kathy’s efforts on behalf of community events, the efforts that she has made to give back to golf and her character would make her a most worthy candidate.”
