Lloyd Heisler and Russell Langille

Beginning in 1934, Lloyd Heisler and Russell Langille began what turned into a 21-year run as consistent provincial dory racing champions.

“When we arrived in Lunenburg and took a look at those rugged fishermen who had been out fishing all summer and who were in top shape from rowing, we kind of had second thoughts,” said the duo in a 1982 Mail Star interview, describing themselves as “a couple of hayseeds who only rowed a dory now and again.”

However, when Heisler and Langille competed in the famed Gloucester and Lunenburg international dory races, they won the trophy all four years from 1952 until their retirement in 1955.
