The Board of Directors for the Lunenburg County Sport Heritage Society (LCSHS) welcomes nominations between January and April each year for the following November’s Wall of Fame induction ceremony.
Your participation matters! Nominations for the Lunenburg County Sport Heritage Society’s Wall of Fame are community driven. All nominations that are submitted are reviewed by the Nomination Review Committee, which in turn makes recommendations for enshrinement to the the LCSHS Board of Directors annually.
As of 2026, the LCSHS has four different nomination categories: Athlete, Team, Builder, and the newly added Legacy category.
ATHLETE CATEGORY
• Athletes nominated must have competed in sport and achieved exceptional sporting excellence at the local, provincial, national and/or international level.
• The nominee must have been born in Lunenburg County OR had permanent residency in Lunenburg County for a minimum of four years during the relevant/active part of their career.
• An Athlete must be retired at least three years from active competition before they are eligible for nomination.
• Individual nominees must be a minimum of 25 years old.
• Canadian Olympians are eligible for automatic induction once retired from their sport regardless of age.
• Not withstanding the above requirements, under exceptional circumstances, Athlete nominees may be eligible if, in the unanimous opinion of the Board of Directors, the nominated Athlete should be recognized by the Lunenburg County Sport Heritage Society as a result of their extraordinary successes or contributions to the growth and development of sport in Lunenburg County.
TEAM CATEGORY
• To be nominated in the Teams category, a Team must have achieved excellence at the local, provincial, national and/or international level.
• A Team is considered to be any two or more individuals who were born in Lunenburg County, have represented Lunenburg County or a community within Lunenburg County in competition, or held permanent residency in Lunenburg County for a minimum of four years during the relevant/active part of their career. Teams for which individuals compete for individual honours in sport competition are not eligible (for example, a points-based swimming team in which individuals competitors are eligible to earn individual medals).
• Teams must be retired at least three years from active competition before they are eligible for nomination.
• Not withstanding the above requirements, under exceptional circumstances, Team nominees may be eligible if, in the unanimous opinion of the Board of Directors, the nominated Team should be recognized by the Lunenburg County Sport Heritage Society as a result of their extraordinary successes or contributions to the growth and development of sport in Lunenburg County.
BUILDER CATEGORY
• To be nominated in the Builder category, an individual or organization/entity must have made a major contribution to the development and advancement of sport or sports at the local, provincial, national and/or international levels.
• Examples of qualified Builders may include but not limited to: administrators, officials/referees, technicians, coaches, educators, organizers, sponsors, and media members.
• An eligible Builder must have been involved in actively contributing to a sport/sporting organization in or with strong connections to Lunenburg County for at least 10 years.
• Individual nominees must be a minimum of 25 years old.
• A Builder must be retired at least three years from participation in the sporting field for which they are nominated before they are eligible for nomination.
• Not withstanding the above requirements, under exceptional circumstances, Builder nominees may be eligible if, in the unanimous opinion of the Board of Directors, the nominated Builder should be recognized by the Lunenburg County Sport Heritage Society as a result of their extraordinary successes or contributions to the growth and development of sport in Lunenburg County.
LEGACY CATEGORY
• The Legacy Category has been created to honour longstanding community based organizations, groups, and associations that have made exceptional contributions to sport and the development of sport in Lunenburg County over multiple generations OR individuals whose accomplishments are historic in nature and predate the modern era.
• Legacy Category nominees may include, but are not limited to, school sports associations, private sports clubs, and community associations.
• Legacy nominees that are an organization, group, or association should have a demonstrated track record of supporting outstanding sporting success at the local, provincial, national, and/or international level for a minimum of five years.
• Organization, group, or association nominees in the Legacy Category must be/have been active over a minimum of 20 years.
• Legacy Category nominations for individuals are intended to acknowledge and honour historic individuals (typically pre-1940) who made significant contributions to sport or the building of sport culture in Lunenburg County but whose achievements are not necessarily chronicled in the same manner or as extensively as those eligible to be honoured in Athlete and Builder Categories.
• No more than one Legacy Category nominee shall be approved for induction annually.
• Not withstanding the above requirements, under exceptional circumstances, Legacy nominees may be eligible if, in the unanimous opinion of the Board of Directors, the nominated Legacy candidate should be recognized by the Lunenburg County Sport Heritage Society as a result of their extraordinary successes or contributions to the growth and development of sport in Lunenburg County.
ALL NOMINEES
All nominees must have represented Lunenburg County and their chosen sporting field with distinction. Any nominees whose conduct, past or present, has been deemed to be detrimental to the community or discrediting of the Lunenburg County Sport Heritage Society may be removed from the nomination process or Wall of Fame enshrinement at any time at the unanimous discretion of the LCSHS Board of Directors.
