Richard Munro

Dayspring native Richard Munro became one of the finest runners Nova Scotia ever produced during the early 1970s, winning championships at every level and going undefeated from high school through university in Canadian events, including a national title as a senior at Dalhousie.

His achievements also included five Atlantic cross-country senior titles and a Canadian cross country championship.

With a dream to run an Olympic marathon, Munro went to Australia in 1973 to train year-round. However, a recurring foot injury was the beginning of the end of his running career.

However, that was not the end of his involvement with athletics. In 1981, as executive director of Run Canada division, he was instrumental in beginning the annual Terry Fox Run as its managing director in the inaugural year. Until retiring in 2012, Munro was CEO of several national associations and charities.
