Playing out of the Bluenose club, Rita Lohnes won the provincial junior, Nova Scotia amateur, Maritime junior and Maritime amateur championships at age 16.
Lohnes went on to win a total of 17 provincial or Maritime championships during her nine years of competition during the decade. She was also on a team representing Nova Scotia each of those years and was the third-ranked Canadian junior as a young golfer.
