Terry Baker

Terry Baker truly made his mark on the Canadian Football League.

“Few Nova Scotians get to play professional football, and finding one who played at the pro level for 16 years is rare,” said part of the Upper LaHave native’s Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame bio. “Terry Baker has conquered that feat, enjoying a 16-year career with the Canadian Football League.”

After being a three-time Atlantic conference all star playing for Mount Allison and Acadia Universities, Baker began his pro career as a kicker with the Montreal Alouettes in 1987.

Two years later, he won a Grey Cup with Saskatchewan, then led the league in punting averages with Ottawa in 1993. After returning to Montreal, Baker won scoring titles in 1998 and 2000, and made the all-star team in 2001.

Baker finished his career with 278 games played and is among the CFL’s top-10 scorers of all time.

During his final game, he had a field goal, three converts and a 68-yard punt single in the Alouettes’ 25-16 Grey Cup win over Edmonton in 2002.
